Adversity Silence Discipline / 逆境守口

Adversity silence discipline is the Hanji 918 frame for deliberately reducing speech when events are adverse, unclear, or politically dangerous. It does not mean surrendering judgment; it means withholding complaint, argument, and uncontrolled disclosure until the situation can be reviewed and the next move can be chosen.

In Hanji 918, the concept is grounded in the failed Liu He-Yang Qiu anti-eunuch plot: 刘郃 understands that 曹节’s side has many ears and eyes, yet the plan still travels through 阳球’s household to 程璜. The result makes “closing the mouth” an operational discipline, not only a personal virtue.
