Company Town Labor Control

Company town labor control is the place-based version of Labor Monopsony in The real horror of ‘Alien’ and how it explains why we’re not paid enough. The episode uses historical company towns and [[AlienRomulus|Alien: Romulus]] to show how one employer can control work, housing, stores, debt, paperwork, and exit at the same time.

In Romulus, Weyland-Yutani raises work-hour quotas and blocks Rain’s departure, making quitting into an administrative impossibility. The source therefore turns the company town from an old mining-town example into a science-fiction classroom for modern employer power.
