Irreversible defection binding / 断路式策反绑定 is the diplomatic mechanism Hanji 158 shows through 随何’s mission to 英布. The persuader does not stop after winning a private promise. He creates a public act that makes returning to the old camp politically or militarily impossible.

The source case has two stages. First, Sui He uses 揣摩 and 利益重构式说服 to get Ying Bu to admit that his apparent loyalty to 项羽 is hollow and that siding with 刘邦 is safer over time. Ying Bu privately agrees, but tells Sui He to keep the matter secret because he still fears Chu.

Second, when Xiang Yu’s envoy arrives to demand troops, Sui He publicly sits above the envoy and says Jiujiang has already submitted to Han. That announcement converts Ying Bu’s hidden option into open evidence. Sui He then urges Ying Bu to kill the envoy, crossing the 不斩来使 boundary so Xiang Yu will treat Ying Bu as an enemy rather than as a wavering subordinate.

The concept is therefore harsher than ordinary persuasion. It combines diagnosis, argument, exposure, and exit closure. Its success is measured not by whether the target feels convinced in the moment, but by whether the target is forced to act consistently with the new camp after the persuader leaves.
