Hanji 981 supplies the handoff scene that the later concept develops. After 陶谦 dies, 糜竺, 陈登, and 孔融 converge on 刘备, while Liu Bei initially hesitates and points toward 袁术. Chen Deng and Kong Rong’s arguments show the first layer of the selection: Xuzhou actors want a protector whose legitimacy and dependence keep the local order governable.
