Psychological Abuse Recognition / 精神虐待识别

Definition

Psychological abuse recognition is the threshold practice of naming intimidation, humiliation, shame, reality distortion, and coercive control as harmful even when there is no clear physical assault.

Current Synthesis

Across the current sources, recognition is hard because psychological harm often arrives through relationship roles that already claim legitimacy: romantic love, family care, expertise, workplace evaluation, or education. The victim may be capable, educated, competent, or high-performing and still struggle to accept that fear, shaking, secrecy, depletion, or self-doubt count as evidence.

VOL.214 expands the concept from intimate and diagnostic-label contexts into schools and workplaces. Humiliation by teachers, parent harassment of teachers, workplace PUA, boss surveillance, and coercive overwork all show that nonphysical harm becomes recognizable only when behavior, power, and effects are examined together.

Key Claims

  • Abuse can operate through shouting, intimidation, humiliation, religious shame, reality manipulation, or repeated evaluative pressure without leaving visible injury.
  • Recognition often depends on trusting fear, discomfort, self-doubt, or depletion as evidence without treating those feelings as automatically complete proof.
  • A trusted outside witness, therapist, clinician, friend, or institutional record can help separate the victim’s reality from the abuser’s explanation.
  • Popular diagnostic or self-help language can help name harm, but it should not replace observation of repeated effects, power, and behavior.
  • Competence does not immunize a person against coercive relationships; high achievement can even intensify self-blame when abuse is framed as performance correction.
  • Recognition is an early step, not a full exit plan; safety, resources, evidence, jurisdiction, and professional support still matter.

Evidence

Counterevidence & Qualifications

Recognition is not the same as diagnosis, proof, or legal finding. The concept should not flatten every painful relationship, harsh manager, parental disagreement, or teacher criticism into abuse. Its useful boundary is repeated nonphysical harm plus coercive effect, especially when power imbalance makes self-defense costly.

What Changed

  • Migrated the page to synthesis-v1 and reorganized it around current claims and claim-grouped evidence.
  • VOL.214 adds workplace and education contexts to the earlier intimate-relationship and NPD-discourse recognition frame.
