Abel Brodeur

Abel Brodeur is the University Of Ottawa economist at the center of Don’t hate the replicator, hate the game. The episode follows his path from a graduate-student smoking-ban paper, where repeated analysis choices could have produced a publishable significant result, into a broader effort to study and change social-science research incentives.

Brodeur founded the Institute For Replication in 2022 and organizes Replication Games so independent teams can rerun code, inspect data, and test whether published results survive Robustness Checks. In the source, his role is less moral prosecutor than incentive designer: he wants a credible chance of inspection to make cleaner research behavior normal.
