Hanji 919 briefly records another Bandun Man rebellion in the same late-Han breakdown field as Emperor Ling’s garden politics and Yang Xuan’s southern suppression branch. The episode does not expand the grievance mechanism here, so this notice should be read as recurrence pressure rather than a replacement for Hanji 922’s root-cause account.
Hanji 922 treats the Bandun Man as a Ba-region group whose rebellion is produced by official extraction rather than inherent anti-Han hostility. In 陈鲍’s explanation, their tax exemptions come from earlier military service, and their aid against rebellions and Qiang incursions once made them known as “divine soldiers.”
The rebellion begins after local officials impose illegal taxes, treat the group harshly, force desperate sales of wives and children, ignore complaints, and block their path to the capital. The court’s repair combines amnesty with the appointment of 曹谦 as 巴郡 administrator, creating an early case for 查因安抚式治理 and 民心型政治安全.
