鲍信 / Bao Xin
Hanji 945 adds Bao Xin’s first appearance in the He Jin crisis before his Hanji 947 warning to 袁绍. 何进 sends Bao Xin and 王匡 to raise troops as part of the outside-force pressure campaign against the 十常侍.
The source does not yet make Bao Xin an adviser; it makes him part of the mobilization that creates 外兵入京升级风险. This helps explain why his later warning against 董卓 matters: he is already inside the military response triggered by He Jin’s summons.
Hanji 947 adds Bao Xin’s earliest anti-Dong-Zhuo timing judgment before the coalition and Cao-side branches. Returning with troops raised from Taishan, he warns 袁绍 that 董卓 has strong soldiers and dangerous intent but can still be attacked while newly arrived and tired.
Yuan Shao’s refusal makes Bao Xin a positive assessment figure in a failed decision environment. His later preference for 曹操 is therefore consistent: this source already shows him valuing quick execution and concrete timing over prestige-backed hesitation.
Hanji 950 gives Bao Xin an earlier recognition role inside the first 反董卓联盟. While 袁绍 receives the public盟主 position, Bao Xin privately identifies 曹操 as the figure most likely to plan great affairs and restore order.
This makes Bao Xin’s later support for Cao Cao less sudden. Before he urges Cao Cao toward 东郡 in Hanji 957 and helps bring him into 兖州 in Hanji 964, the source already shows Bao Xin valuing executable judgment over inherited prestige.
Hanji 957 gives Bao Xin an earlier strategic role before his later 兖州 death branch. After 袁绍 takes 冀州, Bao Xin tells 曹操 that Yuan Shao is using anti-Dong-Zhuo prestige to build a northern base and should be watched.
Bao Xin’s answer is positional. He urges Cao Cao to occupy 东郡, connect west with 张邈, keep contact north toward 公孙瓒, and wait for Yuan Shao’s conflicts to create opportunity. The episode therefore makes Bao Xin one of Cao Cao’s early base-opening supporters before Hanji 964 shows him inviting Cao Cao into Yanzhou and dying in the Qingzhou Yellow Turban campaign.
鲍信 / Bao Xin enters the wiki through Hanji 964 as the 兖州 actor who first warns 刘岱 not to attack the 青州黄巾军 in the field. His proposed response is defensive attrition: seal the city, improve the moat, force the raiding army to face its food problem, and then strike stragglers.
After Liu Dai dies, Bao Xin and 万潜 ask 曹操 to take over Yanzhou. The episode then makes Bao Xin’s loyalty costly and concrete: when Cao Cao fights the Qingzhou Yellow Turbans near Shouzhang, Bao Xin is killed while saving him. Cao Cao cannot find his body, so he has a wooden image buried and mourns him.
