Bertelsmann
Bertelsmann appears in Ron Conway on Napster, Founder Relationships, and SV Angel’s Crisis Work as the media company that later invested roughly $100 million in Napster. Ron Conway says the investment saved Napster when there were no backup options, but much of the money went to legal fees rather than product recovery.
The funding day also produced one of the episode’s sharpest founder-crisis moments. Sean Fanning wanted to resign and start a licensing company, but Conway told him that the namesake founder leaving on funding day could jeopardize the deal; Conway promised that SV Angel would later back what became Snowcap.
