Overview

边通 / Bian Tong is one of three Western Han chief clerks who join Chancellor 庄青翟 in an active counter-coalition against 张汤, are later named in Zhang’s final accusation, and are executed after 汉武帝 reopens the case.

Hanji 339-1 places Bian with 朱买臣 and 王朝 as former senior officials later subordinated to Zhang after his rapid promotion. The episode attributes their hostility to repeated humiliation and says Zhang’s continuing case against Zhuang makes cooperation a matter of self-protection as well as resentment. Zhu leads the Tian Xin accusation; the source does not separately identify Bian’s contribution.

Hanji 339-2 says Zhang’s final letter identifies the three as those who caused his death. After Zhang’s estate and his mother’s sparse funeral alter the emperor’s reading, all three are executed and associated with Zhuang.
