Hanji 929 adds Bian Zhang’s initial coercion layer before the later Ji County encounter. After 先零羌 and associated groups kill 伶征, they elevate 北宫伯玉 and 李文侯 and force Bian Zhang plus 韩遂 into military-political management.
Hanji 930 adds Bian Zhang’s earlier Ji County encounter with 盖勋. The source says Bian Zhang had been coerced and was handling military-political affairs for the 先零羌 side; when Gai Xun rebukes him, Bian Zhang answers that earlier intervention might have left him room to repent, but that his current crimes are already too heavy.
