BoSo
BoSo is the UK student marketplace Harj Taggar and Kulvir Taggar applied to Y Combinator with in Winter 2007 in Harj Taggar on Y Combinator, Triplebyte, and Hiring Judgment. The name stood for “buy or sell online,” but the source says it sounded like “Bozo” to Americans, creating jokes and even an awkward immigration moment at SFO.
The source uses BoSo as the starting point for Startup Legitimacy Transfer. YC did not merely fund the idea; the interview made Harj and Kulvir feel treated like serious adults, gave Harj’s family outside validation, and helped push the team beyond a narrow student-marketplace concept toward the more ambitious Automatic / Automatic Auctions direction.
