蔡瑁 / Cai Mao
Hanji 1010 adds Cai Mao to 刘表’s earlier 荆州 consolidation. The transcript renders the name as “蔡茂”; the wiki keeps the canonical late-Han form. In this source, Cai Mao helps mark the local elite alliance through which Liu Biao suppresses armed local powers and stabilizes northern Jingzhou.
蔡瑁 / Cai Mao enters the wiki through Hanji 1011 as one of the Jingzhou elite figures around 刘表 whom 祢衡 mocks. The transcript renders the name as “蔡茂”; the wiki normalizes it to Cai Mao.
In the source, Cai Mao’s importance is not individual biography but the elite environment. Mi Heng’s habit of ranking and insulting others makes him intolerable inside Liu Biao’s circle, and the host describes those offended actors as turning silence into later slander. Cai Mao therefore helps mark the social layer that lets 借刀杀人 proceed without Liu Biao openly killing the guest.
