柴荣 / Emperor Shizong of Later Zhou

Chai Rong / 柴荣 is the Later Zhou ruler whose reign makes [[ZhaoKuangyin|赵匡胤]] politically consequential in 169.宋太祖之死：烛影斧声，阴谋论中的人性谜团（上）. The episode says Chai Rong appreciates Zhao Kuangyin, uses him in battle, and later has him reform the禁军 after the Battle of Gaoping.

The source also makes Chai Rong a tragic succession figure. He has to balance [[ZhangYongde|张永德]], [[LiChongjin|李重进]], and Zhao Kuangyin, responds to the “点检做天子” rumor by removing Zhang Yongde, and dies leaving a young son. That combination turns capable rule into a fragile inheritance problem.
