柴荣 / Emperor Shizong of Later Zhou

Chai Rong / 柴荣 is the Later Zhou ruler whose reign makes 赵匡胤 politically consequential in 169.宋太祖之死:烛影斧声,阴谋论中的人性谜团(上). The episode says Chai Rong appreciates Zhao Kuangyin, uses him in battle, and later has him reform the禁军 after the Battle of Gaoping.

The source also makes Chai Rong a tragic succession figure. He has to balance 张永德, 李重进, and Zhao Kuangyin, responds to the “点检做天子” rumor by removing Zhang Yongde, and dies leaving a young son. That combination turns capable rule into a fragile inheritance problem.
