陈平 / Chen Ping

陈平 / Chen Ping enters the wiki through Hanji 142 as a trusted 项羽-side officer during the later 鸿门宴 sequence. After 刘邦 leaves the tent and does not return, Xiang Yu sends Chen Ping to look for him.

The source presents Chen Ping as still belonging to Xiang Yu’s camp, not yet as a Han minister. Its interpretive move is foreshadowing: Chen Ping is said to have noticed Liu Bang’s restraint and ability to use people, and when he meets 张良 outside the tent, he does not press the search hard enough to expose the escape. His restraint helps create the time gap that lets Liu Bang reach 霸上 before Zhang Liang returns with the gifts.

For this source, Chen Ping’s importance is transitional. He is a Xiang-camp agent whose conduct already points toward later compatibility with Liu Bang’s side. The wiki therefore records him as a source-scoped hinge between Hongmen escape management and future Chu-Han personnel movement, without treating the episode as a completed defection.
