Damian King
Damian King is the executive director of the Caribbean Policy Research Institute in Jamaica and the main economics explainer in Sand heists and property rights in the Caribbean (Summer School). He frames Caribbean economics around Small Open Economy Vulnerability, including exposure to natural disasters, fuel prices, interest rates, and debt.
King also gives the source its property and trade claims. He argues that secure property rights encourage saving, investment, production, and reinvestment, but he accepts that title alone is not sufficient without other institutions. He closes the episode by arguing that Caribbean economies that maintained high tariffs did worse over the previous half century.
