丹阳郡 / Danyang Commandery
Hanji 905 backfills Danyang before the later Sun-family recruitment branches. In the 174 CE campaign against 许生, the Danyang administration is part of the suppression force, while 孙坚’s locally recruited fighters make Danyang-linked disorder an early stage for his military reputation.
Hanji 973 adds a late-Han Xuzhou use of Danyang troops before the later Sun-family branch. 陶谦 gives 刘备 four thousand Danyang soldiers after asking 田楷 and Liu Bei for help against 曹操, turning Danyang manpower into Liu Bei’s first substantial Xuzhou military base.
Hanji 982 adds a pre-Hanji-983 family-resource layer. The episode treats Danyang soldiers as part of 钱塘吴氏 and 吴景’s practical value to the Sun household: 孙策’s later access to several thousand Danyang troops is not only recruitment luck but a kinship-and-local-office resource.
Hanji 983 first frames Danyang as a strategic recruitment and supply base before 孙策’s later crossing. The episode quotes the region’s mountains and tough population, then shows 袁术 trying to control it indirectly by backing 吴景 and 孙贲. It also adds the local-resistance side through 祖郎’s attack near 泾县.
丹阳郡 / Danyang Commandery enters the wiki through Hanji 992 as the official and recruitment base behind 周瑜’s support for 孙策. 周尚 holds the commandery, and Zhou Yu’s access to that channel helps Sun Ce with soldiers, ships, grain, funds, and a broader manpower pipeline.
The source therefore treats Danyang as more than geography. It is the place where elite office, local recruitment, and personal alliance combine to make Sun Ce’s 横江 and Jiangdong campaign operational.
Hanji 1028 adds Danyang’s unsettled interior after Sun Ce has taken the eastern side. 泾县 and the six counties west of it are still outside easy control; 祖郎 receives 袁术’s seal to stir 山越 resistance, while 太史慈 claims the Danyang administrator title and draws mountain support. Danyang therefore becomes the local-force setting for 降敌任用式立威, because Sun Ce has to absorb enemy leaders as well as occupy terrain.
