Derry Citizens Defence Association
The Derry Citizens Defence Association appears in 698. The Troubles: The Brink of Civil War (Part 2) as the Catholic local defense body formed before the August 1969 Apprentice Boys parade. The episode says it operated under IRA veteran Sean Keenan and prepared barricades and petrol bombs in Derry / Londonderry.
During the Battle of the Bogside, the association appealed to every able-bodied man in Ireland to help. In the source, this defensive mobilization becomes hard to separate from escalation because each community reads the other’s preparation as aggression.
