翟黄 / Di Huang appears in 《资治通鉴·周纪》06丨魏文侯选谁当宰相呢（1） as the disappointed chancellor candidate who confronts 李克 after 魏文侯 chooses 魏成. The source uses him to test whether visible referral service should outweigh a subtler kind of talent attraction.
Di Huang lists five recommendations: 吴起 for the West River frontier, 西门豹 for Ye, 乐羊 for 中山国, Li Ke for Zhongshan administration, and 屈侯鲋 as teacher for the ruler’s son. The episode does not deny these referrals are valuable, but Li Ke’s reply says they remain ministerial recommendations rather than the teacher-level attraction associated with Wei Cheng.
After hearing the comparison, Di Huang accepts the judgment and says he is willing to become Li Ke’s lifelong student.
