The source names Dong Zhong as 骠骑将军 and places him in rivalry with 何进. When Dong Taihou says that having Dong Zhong cut off He Jin’s head would be easy, the He side reads the statement as a direct threat rather than ordinary palace quarrel.
He Jin’s answer is coercive and fast. He joins the Three Excellencies in memorializing against the Dong side, has troops surround Dong Zhong’s general’s residence, removes him from office, and Dong Zhong kills himself.
