Hanji 766 then supplies the pre-collapse layer: household intimidation, anti-Dou ministerial resistance, a reported assassination plot, and Emperor He stripping Dou’s general-in-chief seal. Hanji 767 shows the consequences: Li He avoids a gift connection, Ban Gu dies during the Dou-family cleanup, and Yu Chu abandons the Dou-backed Northern Xiongnu arrangement after Dou loses power.

Ban Gu is swept into prison after an older private grievance becomes actionable during the arrest of Dou-family guests. On the frontier, Dou had installed Yu Chu as a Northern Xiongnu remnant leader and planned to escort him back to the royal court, but Yu Chu repudiates the arrangement after learning Dou has been removed.
