Overview

杜季贡 / Du Jigong is a Hanyang-area Han rebel figure in the early An-era Qiang crisis. Hanji 786 backfills an earlier Shanggui rebellion layer, while Hanji 789 makes him the source case for Han civilians pushed into Qiang-aligned rebellion by coercive frontier relocation.

Current Profile

Hanji 786 supplies the earliest current layer. Hanyang men Du Qi, Du Jigong, Wang Xin, and others join Qiang forces and occupy Shanggui. Hanyang administrator Zhao Bo has Du Qi assassinated, Tang Xi later defeats and kills Wang Xin, and Du Jigong flees toward the Qiang leader Dianling. After Dianling dies and Lingchang / Lin Chang succeeds with Langmo assisting, Du Jigong remains inside the Qiang-side command field.

Hanji 789 places Du Jigong in the 116-117 CE Qiang crisis under the Deng regency. The court tries to move frontier civilians inland so rebels cannot use them, but the relocation is implemented with crop destruction, burned housing, hunger, and forced movement. Du Jigong, his relatives, and other local people join Qiang forces, seize Shanggui, and then flee toward Dianling after defeat.

Du remains militarily consequential in the Hanji 789 layer. When Dianling dies and Lingchang succeeds, Du operates in the same Qiang-side field. Sima Jun briefly defeats Du and takes Dingxi, but a subordinate disobeys the order to cut enemy grain and is ambushed, allowing Du to retake the city. Later, Ren Shang uses the surrendered Qiang Yu Gui to assassinate Du, treating proxy killing as a way to close a problem that direct operations had not settled.
