董太后 / Empress Dowager Dong (late Han) enters the wiki through Hanji 943 as the elder imperial-family figure who raises Liu Xie, later 汉献帝. Because Liu Xie is associated with her household as “董侯,” she becomes part of the rival succession field against 何太后 and 刘辩 / 弘农王.
The source shows her power as both family status and danger signal. She favors Liu Xie, quarrels with Empress Dowager He, and invokes 董重 as someone who could easily kill 何进. Once that threat reaches the He side, He Jin and the Three Excellencies move against her by accusing her circle of wealth extraction and by arguing that a fief-state queen mother should not remain in the capital.
Her death is preserved as source-variant material. 《资治通鉴》 says she died from fear and anxiety; 《后汉书》 is read by the episode as recording pressure toward suicide; 《三国演义》 later turns the death into poisoning by He Taihou.
