鄂千秋 / E Qianqiu

鄂千秋 / E Qianqiu enters the wiki through Hanji 174 part 2 as the figure who defends 萧何’s first-place ranking among early Han merit-holders. When other officials argue that 曹参 has more visible combat wounds and captured-city achievements, E Qianqiu reframes the comparison as “一时之功” versus “万世之功.”

His argument is that Liu Bang’s armies repeatedly collapsed, dispersed, or had to flee during the long struggle with 项羽, while Xiao He kept sending troops and grain from 关中. The source uses E Qianqiu to make the reward hierarchy legible: battlefield excellence matters, but the rear system that prevents the state from dying can rank higher.

After hearing the explanation, 刘邦 rewards E Qianqiu by making him Anping marquis. The source therefore gives him a narrow but important role as a recommender and interpreter of merit, not as an independent strategist.
