樊稠 / Fan Chou (late Han)
樊稠 / Fan Chou enters the wiki through Hanji 984 as a commander inside the 凉州系军阀 around 李傕 and 郭汜. The source treats him as militarily capable and popular with soldiers, which makes him valuable but also dangerous to Li Jue.
Fan Chou attacks 马腾 and 韩遂, defeats them, and pursues them to 陈仓. During that operation 李利, Li Jue’s nephew, follows Fan Chou but fights lazily; Fan Chou rebukes him and threatens punishment.
The decisive suspicion comes after Han Sui speaks with Fan Chou during the pursuit. Han Sui says they have no private hatred and are both dealing with public disorder, then invokes shared hometown ties. Li Li cannot hear the words, but he reports the friendly contact to Li Jue, whose jealousy of Fan Chou’s bravery and army support already makes Fan Chou look like a threat.
The source preserves two death mechanisms. In the main sequence, Fan Chou later asks Li Jue for troops to go beyond the pass, and Li Jue summons and kills him. In the Hou Hanshu variant, Li Jue gets Fan Chou drunk at a banquet and has 胡封 kill him. Both versions support the same source-scoped pattern: a successful commander becomes purgeable once prestige, troop support, and ambiguous outside contact can be read as future rivalry.
