Overview

冯师 / Feng Shi appears in the Shun restoration block as a military official whose refusal to commit helps decide the failed Yan counterattack. Hanji 803 presents him as the Yueqi xiaowei whom 阎显 and 阎太后 try to mobilize against Liu Bao / 汉顺帝, but Feng Shi exits the palace, kills the messenger, and remains in camp.

Current Profile

Hanji 803 supplies Feng Shi’s decisive action. After Sun Cheng’s group enthrones Liu Bao and cuts off Yan Taihou’s communication, Yan Xian panics. The Yan side orders Fan Deng to summon Feng Shi and Yan Chong to defend Ping Shuo Gate and offers large marquisate rewards for capturing Liu Bao or 李润. Feng Shi pretends to comply, leaves the palace on the pretext of fetching troops, kills Fan Deng after exiting, and closes his camp instead of joining Yan Xian.

Hanji 805 later keeps Feng Shi in the cleanup field. Yu Xu’s post-restoration impeachment list includes Feng Shi, so the same noncommitment that deprives Yan Xian of troops does not make Feng Shi a clean restoration actor.

Key Characteristics

  • Yueqi xiaowei whose military commitment is sought by the losing Yan side.
  • Tactical noncommitter who appears to accept orders but exits the palace before acting.
  • Actor whose killing of Fan Deng blocks one Yan communication and mobilization route.
  • Example of how a coup can be decided by refusal to join as much as by active support.
  • Later cleanup target, indicating that nonalignment during the coup does not erase political suspicion.

Evidence

  • Yan mobilization attempt: Hanji 803 says Yan Xian uses Yan Taihou’s authority to summon Feng Shi and Yan Chong for defense of Ping Shuo Gate.
  • Exit and refusal: Hanji 803 says Feng Shi leaves to fetch troops, kills Fan Deng, returns to camp, and closes the doors.
  • Later suspicion: Hanji 805 says Yu Xu later impeaches Feng Shi during the Shun restoration cleanup.

Qualifications

This page is bounded to Hanji 803 and Hanji 805. It does not settle Feng Shi’s full office history, motive for killing Fan Deng, later punishment, or whether his action should be read as prudence, opportunism, or hidden sympathy for the restoration side.

What Changed

  • Created Feng Shi as the noncommitting military actor whose refusal helps collapse the Yan counterattack.

Relationships

  • 阎显 - Yan-family powerholder whose counterattack depends on Feng Shi’s troops.
  • 阎太后 - dowager whose authority is used to summon Feng Shi.
  • 汉顺帝 - restored ruler whom Feng Shi does not move to capture.
  • 李润 - target of the Yan bounty alongside Liu Bao.
  • 虞诩 - later official who impeaches Feng Shi in the restoration cleanup.
  • 宫廷政变中的符印与门户控制 - operational context where gates, troop access, and messenger control shape the outcome.
  • 不依附式朝廷生存 - adjacent pattern because Feng Shi survives the immediate crisis by avoiding full commitment.
