Fiat

Fiat is the Italian automaker that became Ferrari’s strategic owner in Ferrari. After the failed Ford Motor Company acquisition attempt and Enzo Ferrari’s later illness, Fiat acquired 50% of Ferrari in 1969 with an agreement to acquire another 40% after Enzo’s death, while Piero Ferrari retained 10%.

The source frames Fiat as a continuity mechanism. It gave Ferrari industrial backing and succession stability, but it also set up the later FCA debt and spinout context where Sergio Marchionne pushed Ferrari into public markets.
