傅燮 / Fu Xie

Hanji 927 adds an earlier Fu Xie branch before the Liangzhou and Hanyang episodes. The transcript renders him as “傅解”; because the role, eunuch conflict, Yellow Turban merit, and later Zhao Zhong branch align with this page, the wiki normalizes the actor to Fu Xie while keeping the rendering source-scoped.

In the source, Fu Xie warns 汉灵帝 that Yellow Turban disorder grows from internal court failure rather than from bandits alone. He says loyal and wicked officials cannot coexist, warns that slander can make false accusations credible, and exposes eunuch power as the root of the crisis. 赵忠 sees the memorial, resents him, and later helps block his reward despite Yellow Turban merit, setting up the patronage-refusal branch in Hanji 936.

Hanji 934 adds Fu Xie’s earlier court-remonstrance branch before his later patronage refusal and Hanyang death. When 崔烈 proposes abandoning 凉州, Fu Xie answers that killing the situ would make the realm safe, because giving up the western shield would let enemy forces grow stronger and move the danger toward the core.

The episode makes Fu Xie’s vehemence strategic rather than merely personal. He invokes earlier Han frontier policy under 刘邦 and 汉武帝, treating Liangzhou as a traffic corridor, western gate, and long-term anti-Xiongnu security layer. This makes him the source case for 弃边失屏.

Hanji 936 adds the patronage-refusal prelude before Fu Xie’s Hanyang death branch. After his Yellow Turban merit is not properly rewarded, 赵忠 sends his brother Zhao Yan to offer a marquis route through private relationship; Fu Xie refuses, treating unrewarded merit as fate rather than a reason to accept eunuch favor.

That refusal gives 赵忠 reason to resent him while still fearing his reputation. The source then moves Fu Xie outward to 汉阳郡, setting up the office-duty and siege material developed in Hanji 937.

傅燮 / Fu Xie enters through Hanji 937 as the 汉阳郡 administrator whose death marks the Eastern Han court’s loss of practical control in Liangzhou.

Before the collapse, Fu Xie warns 耿鄙 not to rush against 韩遂. He argues that Geng Bi has not yet established local credibility, that the six-commandery army is newly assembled, and that a premature offensive will unite the rebels. His advice is a local version of 战争成本与速决纪律: discipline the army, clarify rewards and punishments, build awe, and wait for the enemy coalition to split.

After 程球 and Geng Bi are killed in the 狄道 mutiny, rebels besiege Hanyang. Beidi Hu cavalry serving with the rebels still respect Fu Xie enough to kneel outside the city and offer him safe passage home. His son 傅干 also urges him to survive, but Fu Xie treats his office as a death-bound duty once he cannot defend the commandery and cannot surrender.

Fu Xie sends Fu Gan away under 杨晖’s protection, comparing Yang Hui to Cheng Ying. When 黄衍 comes on behalf of 王国 to urge surrender, Fu Xie condemns him as a former Han official now speaking for rebels, fights with the remaining troops, and dies.
