Overview

耿纯 / Geng Chun is an Eastern Han commander whose current wiki profile joins two pacification modes under 光武帝刘秀. Hanji 684 gives the hard preemptive side: Geng Chun receives a secret order, enters Zhending, and kills 真定王刘杨 after drawing him into a meeting. Hanji 707 preserves a later reputation-backed surrender side in Dong commandery.

Current Profile

Hanji 684 makes Geng Chun the operator in the Liu Yang crisis. Liu Yang has refused ordinary summons and has used prophecy plus bodily anomaly to imply that he should rule. Liu Xiu therefore sends Geng Chun with a symbol of authority to inspect Youzhou and Jizhou and secretly arrest Liu Yang. Geng Chun approaches the problem through ceremony and confidence rather than immediate open battle: he treats Liu Yang with respect, invites him to his lodging, and kills him and some brothers when Liu Yang arrives with attendants and troops.

This case is severe and bounded. Geng Chun’s effectiveness lies in neutralizing a royal-kin claimant before the city can mobilize around him, but Hanji 684 also says Liu Xiu later considered the case short of actual rebellion and allowed Liu Yang’s son to inherit. Geng Chun therefore belongs to a coercive royal-kin boundary case rather than a simple battlefield victory.

Hanji 707 gives the other current layer. In the same episode cluster where 寇恂 restores Yingchuan through popular trust, Geng Chun is named as producing a Dong commandery result through reputation-backed surrender.
