Current Profile

The current Germany profile is not a complete national history. It is a set of source-grounded cases about how German identity and state responsibility are read through state formation, place, memory, security, policy, symbols, and party competition. The nineteenth-century branch rejects a choice between ancient essence and artificial invention. German unity was imagined through language, philosophy, Romantic culture, popular anti-Napoleonic mobilization, and economic interest, then given a particular border and institutional form by Prussia, Otto von Bismarck, and war in 1871.
