Golden Hind

The Golden Hind appears in 694. Elizabeth I vs The Catholics: A Treacherous Conspiracy (Part 4) as Francis Drake’s ship from his circumnavigation and Spanish treasure raid. By the time Drake returned to England in September 1580, the ship had become a symbol of global reach, Protestant defiance, and diplomatic danger.

On 1 April 1581, Elizabeth I met Drake aboard the Golden Hind at Deptford and had him knighted. The episode treats the scene as political theatre: crowds gather, the ship becomes a public stage, and Elizabeth has a French envoy perform the dubbing rather than doing it herself.

For the wiki, the Golden Hind is the object through which Privateering Plausible Deniability becomes visible. Elizabeth can enjoy Drake’s glamour and treasure while still using ceremony, delegation, and denial to manage Spain and France.
