公孙度 / Gongsun Du enters the wiki through Hanji 959 as the late-Han figure used to turn the episode’s survival question into a timing problem. The source says 董卓 appoints him administrator of Liaodong in 190 CE, then pauses to ask how a man of ordinary background could receive that opportunity and later found a multi-generation Liaodong base.
The backstory is built from relocation, recognition, and recommendation. Gongsun Du follows his father to Xuantu Commandery after earlier trouble, and the Xuantu governor Gongsun Yu favors him because Gongsun Du’s childhood name matches the governor’s deceased son Gongsun Bao. When an imperial edict in 169 CE asks local authorities to recommend talented and virtuous men, Gongsun Yu recommends him, giving him the entry point for official life.
The episode’s conclusion keeps his Liaodong achievement mostly deferred. Its immediate use of Gongsun Du is conceptual: success in disorder may require ability, reputation, hard work, and luck, but those advantages still need 藏器待时 before they can be safely converted into power.
