韩生 / Han Sheng enters the wiki through Hanji 142 as the adviser who tells 项羽 to hold 关中 after entering 咸阳. His counsel rests on the region’s defensive terrain and wealth: if Xiang Yu makes it his base, he can claim durable supremacy rather than merely collect spoils and leave.
Xiang Yu rejects the proposal because he wants to return east and display success in his home region. Han Sheng then criticizes Chu people with the “沐猴而冠” image, implying that Xiang Yu has acquired the appearance of rulership without the capacity to sustain it. When the remark reaches Xiang Yu, he has Han Sheng boiled alive.
