Hasdrubal Barca / 哈斯德鲁巴·巴卡
Overview
Hasdrubal Barca / 哈斯德鲁巴·巴卡 is Hannibal Barca / 汉尼拔’s brother and a Carthaginian commander whose armies defend the Barcid Spanish power base before his attempt to reinforce Italy ends at the Battle of the Metaurus / 梅陶鲁斯河战役.
Current Profile
Hasdrubal controls southern Iberian forces and the strategic center at New Carthage / 新迦太基 while Hannibal campaigns in Italy. His first attempted march north after Cannae is stopped at the Battle of Ibera / 伊贝拉战役, preventing an early concentration of the brothers’ armies.
He later helps defeat and kill Scipio’s father and uncle, but the younger Scipio Africanus / 大西庇阿 captures New Carthage while the Carthaginian field armies are dispersed. Hasdrubal survives a later defeat by Scipio, withdraws, rebuilds, crosses the Pyrenees and Alps, and reaches northern Italy with a reinforcement army.
The plan fails at the communication and concentration stage. Roman forces intercept his message to Hannibal, Gaius Claudius Nero secretly joins Marcus Livius Salinator, and the combined consular army defeats Hasdrubal at the Metaurus before the brothers unite.
