Overview

弘恭 / Hong Gong enters the wiki through Hanji 470 as an early 汉元帝-era eunuch favorite aligned with 石显 against 萧望之, 周堪, and 刘向 / 刘更生. Hanji 469 adds the preceding procedural trap in which Hong Gong and Shi Xian turn accusations from 郑朋 and 华龙 into Tingwei custody and then a face-saving pardon.

Current Profile

Hanji 469 and Hanji 470 present Hong Gong as part of the inner-court group that first damages Xiao Wangzhi’s standing and then resists his restoration. In the first stage, Hong Gong and Shi Xian direct Zheng Peng and Hua Long’s accusations, propose Tingwei custody, and later reframe release as imperial pardon. In the second stage, when Yuan wants to reuse Zhou Kan and Liu Gengsheng, Hong Gong and Shi Xian press the appointments down to lower posts. When Liu Gengsheng uses disasters to urge that Hong Gong and Shi Xian be removed from court, they push Yuan toward investigation and Liu is again reduced to commoner status.

Hong Gong also participates in the Xiao Wangzhi death case. The source says Hong Gong and Shi Xian understand Xiao’s pride and persuade Yuan that arresting Xiao will only teach him a lesson, not cause death. That reading lowers Yuan’s resistance to a public arrest operation that Xiao experiences as intolerable humiliation.
