黄六鸿 / Huang Liuhong is the Qing magistrate whose administrative writing becomes one of 史景迁’s key sources in 《王氏之死》. In 148. 王氏之死：断井颓垣上的历史妆镜, he appears as a county official trying to govern 郯城 after earthquake, famine, tax stress, lawsuits, suicide, and local disorder.

His 《福惠全书》 supplies details that a county gazetteer alone would not provide: case handling, suicide admonitions, local belief, and practical investigation. In the 王氏 case, the episode emphasizes his combination of forensic observation and social psychology: he inspects the mat and body marks, questions neighbors, and uses fear of the 城隍 temple to hear the Ren father and son speak under pressure.
