惠施 / Hui Shi
惠施 / Hui Shi appears in 《资治通鉴·周纪》27丨围观魏惠王和齐威王是咋商业互捧 as the 魏国 adviser who talks 魏惠王 / 梁惠王 out of an emotional revenge campaign against 齐国 after 马陵之战. The episode presents him as a strategic realist: Wei has already suffered from conflict with Zhao and Qi, so another all-out attack would risk more than it could gain.
His proposed move is low-posture statecraft as a tactic. Hui Shi suggests that Wei defer publicly to 齐威王, then use the news to irritate 楚国 and create space for Qi-Chu conflict. In the episode, this advice becomes one half of 徐州相王: Wei can acknowledge Qi’s kingly title without simply accepting permanent humiliation, and Qi can return the recognition to preserve Wei’s face.
《资治通鉴·周纪》28丨韩昭侯的快乐你想象不到 gives the sequel to his forecast. 楚威王 does attack Qi after the title exchange, but the reaction is wider than Hui Shi’s immediate Chu lever: Zhao and Yan also pressure Qi, making the episode’s broader point about 名分秩序反弹.
