Overview

湖阳公主 / Princess Huyang enters the wiki through Hanji 721 as 光武帝刘秀’s sister whose protected slave kills someone and is executed by 董宣. Her page is not a full biography; it preserves the royal-household privilege case that makes Dong Xuan’s enforcement politically meaningful.

Current Profile

Hanji 721 presents Princess Huyang through one legal conflict. A household slave commits murder and hides in the princess residence, leaving ordinary officials unable or unwilling to enter. When the princess later travels with the slave in her carriage, Dong Xuan intercepts the procession, rebukes her for sheltering the offender, and executes the slave.

Afterward, Princess Huyang complains to Liu Xiu and tries to turn the case into an imperial-authority comparison. She says that when Liu Xiu was still a commoner he could hide fugitives without officials daring to enter, but now as emperor he seems less powerful than a county magistrate. Liu Xiu answers that emperor and commoner are different, then releases Dong Xuan.

The source therefore uses Princess Huyang structurally. Her proximity to Liu Xiu makes the offender protected, but that same proximity also lets Liu Xiu make a public signal by refusing to reverse Dong Xuan’s enforcement.

Key Characteristics

  • Eastern Han princess and Liu Xiu’s sister in the episode’s legal-conflict scene.
  • Royal-household protector whose residence initially shields a murderous slave from ordinary arrest.
  • Uses palace access to complain directly to Liu Xiu after Dong Xuan’s enforcement.
  • Presses Liu Xiu through a comparison between his commoner past and imperial authority.
  • Becomes the protected-household side of an early Eastern Han law-over-kinship case.

Evidence

  • Royal kinship: Hanji 721 identifies Princess Huyang as Liu Xiu’s sister.
  • Protected household: Hanji 721 says the murderer hides in the princess household and ordinary officials cannot capture him there.
  • Carriage scene: Hanji 721 says the princess travels with the slave, allowing Dong Xuan to stop the carriage and execute him.
  • Palace complaint: Hanji 721 says Princess Huyang complains to Liu Xiu and challenges his imperial authority after Dong Xuan refuses to apologize.

Qualifications

This page is bounded to the Dong Xuan episode and does not infer Princess Huyang’s full life, marriage, property, or later political role. The source’s point is not that every princess household had the same legal position; it is that this one protected household becomes an unusually clear test of whether royal kinship can shelter lethal wrongdoing. The transcript’s 胡阳公主 is normalized to 湖阳公主 and kept distinct from 胡阳, the unrelated late-Han campaign place.

What Changed

  • Created this page from Hanji 721 to preserve the princess-household side of Dong Xuan’s enforcement case.
  • Added a naming boundary separating Princess Huyang from the existing Huyang place page.

Relationships

  • 光武帝刘秀 - brother and emperor whose response decides whether her household complaint overrides enforcement.
  • 董宣 - Luoyang magistrate who rebukes her and executes her protected slave.
  • 高位执法信号 - concept for the public meaning of enforcement against her protected household.
  • 法度压过亲缘特权 - related because her kinship claim fails to reverse the legal outcome.
  • 胡阳 - unrelated place-name route kept separate from this princess page.
