金尚 / Jin Shang
Overview
金尚 / Jin Shang is a late-Han official whose wiki profile turns on the gap between formal appointment and armed control. He is first blocked from taking Yanzhou, later refuses 袁术’s illegitimate taiwei title, and is posthumously honored by the Han court as a loyalty marker after Yuan Shu kills him.
Current Profile
Jin Shang’s evidence is compact but consistent. His court title as Yanzhou inspector cannot displace 曹操 once local invitation and force make Cao the effective holder of 兖州. Later, Yuan Shu’s imperial claim creates the opposite pressure: accepting office would compromise Jin Shang under an unsupported claimant, while refusing without enough protection exposes him to death. Hanji 1021 gives the court’s posthumous answer by ordering mourning and appointing his son, turning Jin Shang into a small but clear case of loyalty recognition under 名器合法性.
Key Characteristics
- Court-appointed Yanzhou inspector whose title lacks practical access when Cao Cao blocks him.
- Former official forced into Yuan Shu’s orbit after losing the Yanzhou branch.
- Refuser of Yuan Shu’s offered taiwei title after Yuan Shu claims imperial status.
- Posthumously honored by Emperor Xian’s court as a loyalty signal.
Evidence
- Title without control: Hanji 964 says the court appoints Jin Shang as Yanzhou inspector after Liu Dai’s death, but Cao Cao blocks him and Jin Shang is forced toward Yuan Shu.
- Refusal and death: Hanji 1016 says Yuan Shu tries to make Jin Shang taiwei after claiming imperial status; Jin Shang refuses, tries to flee, and is killed.
- Court-side honor: Hanji 1021 reports Jin Shang’s body returning, Emperor Xian praising his loyalty, officials being ordered to mourn, and Jin Shang’s son receiving office.
