康居 / Kangju enters the wiki through Hanji 550 as a Western Regions and Central Asian polity whose relation with Western Han is diplomatically ambiguous: it sends a prince-hostage and tribute, yet 郭舜 argues that its ritual conduct shows contempt rather than submission.

The source first places Kangju inside Wusun’s wider crisis. After 末振将’s faction is punished, his brother Beiyuanzhi flees north with a large following and seeks support near Kangju, raising the possibility that Kangju power could be used to merge the Wusun kunmi order by force.

The second layer is diplomatic. Kangju sends a prince to serve in Chang’an and offers tribute, but Guo Shun says Kangju’s king refuses proper obeisance to Han envoys, ranks Han protectorate officials below other envoys, and feeds Kangju elites before Han officials. The court still chooses continued engagement because this is Kangju’s first such mission.
