孔鲋 / Kong Fu
孔鲋 / Kong Fu enters the wiki through 《资治通鉴·秦纪》124|焚书坑儒?!我在B站为秦始皇平反! as 孔子’s eighth-generation descendant, courtesy name 子鱼. After the 秦代焚书令, 陈馀 worries about his safety and visits him.
In the source’s account, Kong Fu answers that his learning is “useless” in the sense that only a few friends know it, so Qin officials are unlikely to notice his forbidden books. He chooses to hide the books and wait for later seekers, reasoning that if later people come looking for ancient texts, the danger will already have passed. The episode uses him as the preservation counterpoint to book burning: coercion can make texts more carefully hidden rather than truly erased.
The source then gives his later endpoint. When 陈胜 and 吴广 rebel, Chen Yu helps bring Kong Fu into Chen Sheng’s new regime as博士. The reported 《史记》 line says Kong Fu dies at Chen while serving that regime.
Qinji 128-5 adds Kong Fu’s warning inside 张楚政权. After 陈胜 sends 周文 west and becomes overconfident, Kong Fu warns that military planning should not rely on the enemy failing to arrive; it should rely on one’s own position being hard to attack. Chen Sheng dismisses the advice, and Zhou Wen’s later defeat by 章邯 makes the warning retrospectively important.
