吴夫人 / Lady Wu (Sun Jian)

Overview

吴夫人 / Lady Wu is Sun Jian’s Qiantang Wu-clan wife and a Sun-family political actor whose current wiki role spans resource linkage, restraint of 孙策’s severity, direct succession-stabilizing action after Sun Ce’s death, and endorsement of 周瑜’s anti-hostage counsel to 孙权.

Current Profile

The evidence no longer treats Lady Wu only as a marriage network. Hanji 982 makes her the bridge into Jiangdong gentry and military resources; Hanji 1039 shows her as an emergency moral and political counsellor who saves 魏腾 and warns Sun Ce that killing frank local staff will alienate talent.

Hanji 1052 adds her succession role. After Sun Ce dies and Sun Quan succeeds while still under 19, Lady Wu entrusts 张纮 and 张昭 with assisting him and asks 董袭 whether Jiangdong can hold. The episode therefore makes her a visible stabilizer of the household and adviser network at the moment when private grief could become political collapse.

Hanji 1058 adds a more specific authority-confirming intervention. When 曹操 demands that Sun Quan send a younger brother or son to court, Sun Quan brings Zhou Yu to Lady Wu. After Zhou Yu argues against sending a hostage, Lady Wu agrees and tells Sun Quan to treat Zhou Yu like an elder brother because Zhou Yu is nearly the same age as Sun Ce and has long been treated as a son. Her endorsement makes the refusal of hostage-backed dependency a household-authorized decision.

Key Characteristics

  • Connects the Sun household to 钱塘吴氏 prestige, routes, trade resources, and Jiangdong society.
  • Anchors Sun-family succession and household continuity after 孙坚’s death.
  • Receives and legitimates early support from Zhou Yu in Sun Ce’s base-building phase.
  • Uses personal authority and a threatened well-side suicide to stop Sun Ce from killing Wei Teng.
  • Frames talent retention and popular attachment as practical constraints on Sun Ce’s punishment power.
  • Entrusts Zhang Hong and Zhang Zhao with assisting young Sun Quan and seeks Dong Xi’s military confidence assessment after Sun Ce’s death.
  • Endorses Zhou Yu’s anti-hostage analysis and tells Sun Quan to honor him like an elder brother.

Evidence

  • Resource bridge: Hanji 982 links Lady Wu to Qiantang Wu-clan resources, Jiangdong gentry, water routes, and Danyang military access through Wu Jing.
  • Household continuity: Hanji 982 names her as mother of Sun Ce, Sun Quan, Sun Yi, and other Sun-family children.
  • Zhou Yu connection: Hanji 982 says Zhou Yu visits and honors Lady Wu during Sun Ce’s early support-network formation.
  • Restraint of severity: Hanji 1039 has Lady Wu stop Sun Ce from executing Wei Teng and warn that Jiangnan is not yet stable.
  • Talent-retention logic: Hanji 1039 makes her intervention a lesson about preserving people willing to speak frankly.
  • Succession entrustment: Hanji 1052 has Lady Wu entrust Zhang Hong and Zhang Zhao with assisting Sun Quan, then ask Dong Xi whether Jiangdong can remain stable.
  • Hostage-refusal endorsement: Hanji 1058 has Lady Wu endorse Zhou Yu’s refusal advice and instruct Sun Quan to treat Zhou Yu like an elder brother.

Qualifications

The page is based on episodes that use Lady Wu selectively. It supports her importance as resource bridge, counsellor, succession stabilizer, and adviser-legitimating household authority, but it does not yet supply a continuous biography or independent account of her household governance. Hanji 1058’s elder-brother language should be kept as a role-confirming instruction, not as a formal office.

What Changed

  • Added Hanji 1058’s scene in which Lady Wu endorses Zhou Yu’s anti-hostage advice.
  • Extended Lady Wu’s succession role from adviser entrustment to authorization of Sun Quan’s early autonomy decision.
  • Preserved Hanji 1039’s Wei Teng intervention and Hanji 1052’s transition-management evidence.

  • 礼敬式人才吸附 - concept reinforced by Lady Wu’s argument against killing frank talent.
