梁不疑 / Liang Buyi (late Han)
Updated · 1 episodes · 1 show · 1 source notes
Overview
梁不疑 / Liang Buyi is Liang Ji’s scholar-leaning brother in the 151 CE Hanji 836 layer. The source makes him important less as an independent officeholder than as the kinship node through which 梁冀’s suspicion moves from family conflict into surveillance and punishment of visiting士人.
Current Profile
Liang Buyi is presented as a member of the Liang family whose temperament and associations differ sharply from Liang Ji’s. He favors learning, Confucian culture, and contact with scholars, while Liang Ji is portrayed as indulgent, arrogant, and corrupt.
The conflict becomes politically dangerous after Liang Ji uses power to move Liang Buyi into the Guanglu xun post and place his young son Liang Yin as Henan Yin. Liang Buyi resigns, closes his doors with another brother, and stops public contact, but Liang Ji continues to send disguised watchers to monitor his household.
When 马融 and 田明 pass by and visit Liang Buyi on the way to commandery posts, Liang Ji treats the visit as a threat. The resulting accusations, hair-removal punishment, flogging, and exile make Liang Buyi’s household a pressure point where brotherly conflict becomes outer-relative political control.
Key Characteristics
- Liang-family figure whose scholar associations contrast with Liang Ji’s coercive political style.
- Brother whose retreat from office does not end Liang Ji’s suspicion or surveillance.
- Household node through which ordinary visits by newly appointed officials become punishable political contact.
- Source case showing that outer-relative power can police kinship boundaries as well as public offices.
