梁国 / Liang Kingdom (Western Han)
Updated · 1 episodes · 1 show · 1 source notes
Overview
The Western Han Liang Kingdom is presented in Hanji 221 as a royal domain whose location gives it value as a buffer against powerful eastern kingdoms.
Current Profile
After 梁怀王刘揖 dies without an heir, 贾谊 opposes simply abolishing Liang. The episode attributes to him a design that enlarges or preserves Liang so it can help constrain Qi and Zhao, paired with Huaiyang against Wu and Chu. 汉文帝刘恒 then moves 刘武 from Huaiyang to Liang. The host reads Liu Wu’s later resistance in the Seven States rebellion as support for the design’s strategic logic.
Key Characteristics
- Western Han same-surname royal kingdom.
- Eastern strategic position interpreted as useful against strong princely states.
- Succession vacancy after Liu Yi’s childless death creates a choice between abolition and continued deployment.
- Reassigned to Liu Wu in the episode’s account.
- Later defense is used retrospectively to evaluate Jia Yi’s foresight.
Evidence
Succession and preservation:
- Hanji 221 says Liu Yi’s childless death made abolition customary, while Jia Yi argued that losing Liang would harm the wider balance.
Strategic role:
- Hanji 221 attributes to Jia Yi the claim that Liang could resist Qi and Zhao and says Liu Wu was moved there.
Qualifications
This page is bounded to one episode and does not yet reconstruct Liang’s full territory, administration, revenue, succession history, or military role. The Seven States comparison is retrospective and does not prove that the 169 BCE arrangement alone caused Liang’s later performance. This Western Han kingdom is distinct from the pre-Qin Liang State.
