In the source, Li Li’s role is small but consequential. He follows Fan Chou but fights lazily, prompting Fan Chou to scold him and threaten punishment. Later he sees Fan Chou and Han Sui hold hands and talk for a long time during the pursuit toward 陈仓. He cannot hear their words, but he reports their closeness to Li Jue.
Li Li is therefore a transmission channel rather than the full cause of Fan Chou’s death. His report matters because Li Jue is already jealous of Fan Chou’s bravery, military prestige, and army support; the report converts ambiguous field courtesy into a usable suspicion.
