Overview

陵昌 / 林昌 / Lin Chang is the young Qiang successor after Dianling in the early An-era Qiang war field. Hanji 786 backfills his succession and Langmo-assisted leadership before Hanji 789 develops the later Han campaign, household-targeting violence, and proxy assassination layers.

Current Profile

Hanji 786 supplies the earliest current succession layer. After Dianling dies, his son Lingchang succeeds, Langmo becomes a key adviser, and Du Jigong remains attached to the Qiang-side command field. The source uses this succession to connect Hanyang-area rebellion to the wider Qiang war rather than treating Du’s branch as isolated local disorder.

Hanji 789 says Dianling dies after the Qiang side pushes toward the Luoyang-facing route, and Lin Chang, still young, succeeds him with Langmo assisting. The host reads this succession as reducing immediate pressure on Luoyang because a new and young leader has to consolidate before continuing major advances.

The Han response attacks Lin Chang’s field from several directions. Sima Jun and Pang Can split forces, Deng Zun uses Southern Xiongnu cavalry against Lin Chang at Linzhou, and Ren Shang attacks the Beidi branch. Ren Shang kills Lin Chang’s wife and children, burns his residence, and seizes livestock. Lin Chang is later assassinated by Hao Feng, who is rewarded with a Qiang royal title.

Key Characteristics

  • Young successor whose accession changes the Qiang campaign tempo after Dianling’s death.
  • Rendered as Lingchang or Lin Chang across bounded notes, with the route retained as LinChangQiang.
  • Dependent on Langmo’s assistance, suggesting a leadership field rather than settled one-man control.
  • Target of Han split operations by Sima Jun, Pang Can, Deng Zun, and Ren Shang.
  • Exposed to household-targeting coercion as Ren Shang attacks family, residence, and livestock.
  • Removed by proxy assassination, turning leadership elimination into a frontier pacification tool.

Evidence

  • Earliest succession notice: Hanji 786 says Dianling dies, his son Lingchang succeeds, and Langmo assists.
  • Du Jigong connection: Hanji 786 links Lingchang’s succession to Du Jigong’s continuing Qiang-side role.
  • Succession and tempo: Hanji 789 says Lin Chang succeeds Dianling while young, is assisted by Langmo, and temporarily changes the campaign tempo.
  • Cavalry strike: Hanji 789 says Deng Zun uses Southern Xiongnu cavalry against Lin Chang’s forces at Linzhou.
  • Household attack: Hanji 789 says Ren Shang kills Lin Chang’s wife and children, burns his residence, and takes livestock.
  • Assassination: Hanji 789 reports Hao Feng killing Lin Chang and receiving a Qiang royal title.

Qualifications

The page treats 陵昌 and 林昌 as transcript/source-rendering variants for the same bounded Qiang successor unless future sources require disambiguation. Dianling, Langmo, and Hao Feng are not yet promoted to separate canonical pages, so their details remain source-scoped until additional bounded evidence appears.

What Changed

  • Added Hanji 786’s Lingchang succession notice before Hanji 789’s fuller Lin Chang campaign layer.
  • Preserved the filename route while updating the title and qualifications to reflect the 陵昌/林昌 rendering issue.
  • Connected Lingchang/Lin Chang more explicitly to Du Jigong’s Hanyang/Shanggui branch.
