刘岱 / Liu Dai (late Han)
Hanji 961 backfills Liu Dai before his death. He is governing 兖州 while 袁绍 and 公孙瓒 shift from anti-Dong-Zhuo allies into enemies. Yuan Shao’s household is with Liu Dai, and Gongsun Zan uses 范方 to pressure Liu Dai to hand them over.
The source gives Liu Dai one successful choice before the fatal mistake developed in Hanji 964. 程昱 advises him not to rely on distant Gongsun Zan and to remain neutral because Yuan Shao is unlikely to harm him. Liu Dai follows this reading, Fan Fang leaves, and news soon arrives that Gongsun Zan has lost, validating Cheng Yu’s 行势情战略评估.
刘岱 / Liu Dai enters the wiki through Hanji 964 as the 兖州 inspector killed while fighting the 青州黄巾军. 鲍信 advises him to avoid a field battle, shut the gates, strengthen the moat, and let the hungry Yellow Turban force exhaust itself, but Liu Dai insists on going out.
The episode treats Liu Dai’s failure as a decision error under status pressure. Because he is a Han-clan figure and fears both face loss and his own half-month food limit, he rejects a strategy of waiting and attrition. After marching out, his force is ambushed; the source says broken wine jars are spread on the road to panic horses, and Liu Dai dies in the battle.
