Overview

刘淖子 / Liu Naozi enters the wiki through Hanji 382-2 as the son of 淖姬 and 赵敬肃王刘彭祖. His importance is not a completed reign but a failed succession: after Liu Pengzu dies, 汉武帝 asks about him and rejects him when Nuo Ji’s brother says he has too many desires.

Current Profile

The episode gives Liu Naozi a narrow but conceptually useful role. As Liu Pengzu’s son by a favored consort, he is a plausible Zhao successor when the Zhao kingship has no settled heir. Yet his candidacy depends on an external character report mediated through Nuo Ji’s brother, who is serving as a eunuch in the palace.

The report defeats him. Han Wudi interprets too much desire as a sign that Liu Naozi cannot serve as lord over a kingdom and people. Liu Naozi therefore becomes the source’s example of how appetite, ambition, or unmanaged wanting can make a royal candidate politically unsafe even when lineage and maternal favor make him visible.

Key Characteristics

  • Western Han Zhao-branch royal son of Nuo Ji and Liu Pengzu.
  • Succession candidate after Liu Pengzu dies without a settled heir.
  • Evaluated through Nuo Ji’s brother rather than through direct self-presentation in the source.
  • Rejected because he is said to have too many desires.
  • Functions as the episode’s hinge from Nuo Ji’s tragic story to the closing governance lesson.

Evidence

Lineage:

  • Hanji 382-2 says Liu Naozi is born to Nuo Ji and Liu Pengzu.

Succession review:

  • Hanji 382-2 says Han Wudi asks Nuo Ji’s brother about Liu Naozi after Liu Pengzu’s death because the Zhao successor has not been fixed.

Character rejection:

  • Hanji 382-2 says Nuo Ji’s brother reports that Liu Naozi has too many desires, and Han Wudi judges such a person unsuitable to govern.

Qualifications

The source does not describe Liu Naozi’s own actions in detail. “Too many desires” is an evaluative report in the episode, not an independently tested character dossier. His exact rank, age, and later life remain outside this source note.

What Changed

  • Created from Hanji 382-2 as the rejected Zhao succession candidate whose desire reputation blocks inheritance.
