Overview
赵敬肃王刘彭祖 / Liu Pengzu, Zhao King enters the wiki through Hanji 382-1 as 汉武帝’s elder half-brother, king of Zhao, and father of 赵太子刘丹. Hanji 382-2 extends him from Liu Dan’s scandal into a later Zhao succession branch: he is portrayed as a harsh and legally cunning long-ruling prince who later obtains 淖姬 and fathers 刘淖子.
Current Profile
The first source presents Liu Pengzu as a Zhao royal father caught between a damaging heir and Han Wudi’s central authority. Jiang Chong, then Jiang Qi, becomes a guest in Liu Pengzu’s circle because Jiang’s sister marries Liu Dan. When Jiang later accuses Liu Dan in Chang’an, Liu Pengzu tries to discredit Jiang as a fugitive whose testimony should not be trusted.
Han Wudi does not accept that defense. Liu Pengzu then offers to personally serve on the frontier to save Liu Dan, and the episode says this plea changes the outcome from death to demotion. Liu Pengzu therefore functions less as an independent policy actor than as the royal-household context for Jiang Chong’s first major denunciation.
Hanji 382-2 adds a separate household and succession profile. The episode describes Liu Pengzu as harsh and skilled at using Han law to trap officials, with successive Zhao-household officials rarely lasting long. After 刘建 dies, Liu Pengzu obtains Nuo Ji and has Liu Naozi with her. When Liu Pengzu dies without a settled successor, Han Wudi rejects Liu Naozi as desire-heavy and establishes 武始侯刘昌 instead. Liu Pengzu’s page therefore now spans two Zhao succession risks: Liu Dan’s scandal before Jiang Chong’s rise and Liu Naozi’s failed inheritance after Liu Pengzu’s death.
