衡山王子刘孝 / Liu Xiao, Prince of Hengshan
Updated · 2 episodes · 1 show · 2 source notes
Overview
刘孝 / Liu Xiao is the younger son of 衡山王刘赐 and a succession aspirant who joins 徐来 against elder brother 刘爽. Hanji 305-2 turns that temporary alliance into a failed rise: Xu Lai compromises him, Liu Ci selects him as replacement heir and weapons manager, and he ultimately confesses and accuses his father during the imperial investigation.
Current Profile
Liu Xiao’s position is built on incompatible dependencies. He wants Liu Shuang’s place, while Xu Lai wants Liu Guang and uses a maid’s sexual relationship with Liu Xiao as leverage. Liu Ci nevertheless comes to favor Liu Xiao, assigns him bows, arrows, and chariots, and petitions to make him crown prince. Once Liu Shuang’s report brings scrutiny and investigators find an alleged participant at Liu Xiao’s residence, Liu Xiao seeks leniency through confession and denunciation of Liu Ci. The source says he is still ordered to die.
Key Characteristics
- Younger royal son who treats the established heir’s weakness as an opening.
- Tactical ally whose succession goal conflicts with Xu Lai’s preferred settlement.
- Compromised participant vulnerable to sexual leverage inside the household.
- Proposed replacement heir entrusted with material preparations linked to rebellion.
- Self-protective confessor whose accusation against his father does not save him.
Evidence
Ambition and temporary alignment:
- Hanji 305-1 says Liu Xiao wants the heirship and joins Xu Lai and Liu Wucai in denouncing Liu Shuang.
Compromise and promotion:
- Hanji 305-2 says Xu Lai uses a maid to compromise Liu Xiao, while Liu Ci later entrusts him with weapons and seeks court approval to make him heir.
Investigation and reversal:
- Hanji 305-2 says investigators find an alleged participant at Liu Xiao’s residence, after which he confesses, accuses Liu Ci, and is ultimately ordered to die.
Qualifications
The evidence comes from two consecutive episodes in one narrative series. Liu Xiao’s sexual conduct, knowledge of the maid’s other relationship, motives, weapons role, confession, and expectation of leniency remain source-scoped. The statement that a confession should have produced leniency is the episode’s account of legal practice, not a complete reconstruction of the applicable law or judgment.
What Changed
- Liu Xiao progresses from aspiring coalition member to proposed heir and weapons manager.
- The tactical alliance’s incompatibility becomes concrete when Xu Lai compromises him rather than accepting his succession goal.
- His final denunciation of Liu Ci confirms that the anti-Liu Shuang alignment was never a durable governing coalition.
Relationships
- 衡山王刘赐 - father who favors and arms him before becoming the target of his confession.
- 刘爽 - elder brother whose position he seeks and whose report exposes him.
- 徐来 - tactical ally who uses compromise to limit his independence.
- 刘无采 - sister and fellow participant in the earlier anti-heir alignment.
- 宠幸驱动的废嫡立庶 - succession framework in which his attempted promotion remains unstable and incomplete.
